Before Surgery

Having surgery can be a scary experience.  We want you to feel as comfortable as possible.  Our goal is to provide you with excellent care with a team of specialized professionals!   These guidelines will help you know what to do and expect before your surgery.   It is important for you to follow these guidelines to prevent delay or cancellation.

  • To expedite your check-in process please have all your registration paperwork completed prior to your surgery date.
  • Please plan to bring with you a escort, friend, relative or surrogate to be with you the day of surgery.  Someone other than yourself will need to drive you home.  **Do not plan to use a taxi or public transportation.**  In addition,  a dedicated care giver must stay with you the first 24 hours after surgery.
  • Please leave valuables at home.  Plan to bring your insurance card and photo ID.
  • Please DO NOT eat or drink anything after midnight before you surgery date-including ice, water, chewing gum or mints.  DO NOT drink alcohol for at least 12 hours.  Please DO NOT smoke or use tobacco after midnight.
  • Shower with a bar of antibacterial soap (such as Dial, Lever 2000, or Safeguard) the evening before AND the morning of surgery.
  • Please remove all make-up, nail polish, jewelry (including all body jewelry), hair clips, contact, glasses, dentures.  Please bring a case with you for contacts and glasses.
  • Plan to wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing that will slide easy over dressings.
  • Plan to bring any special equipment you use at home with you such as a CPAP machine or cane.
  • Please notify the center if you suspect you may be pregnant or have a fever, cold, vomiting or diarrhea.  If you have special needs such as an interpreter, please let us know.
  • Should you need to cancel your surgery for any reason-please call us at 770-338-1666.  We request a 24 hour notice or a $200.00 cancellation fee could occur.
