Jean-Claude Schwartz, MD, is a cancer survivor, which allow him to better appreciates the stresses and worries of his patients.
Dr. Schwartz focuses on comprehensive breast surgical care, including biopsy, removal of benign and malignant breast lesions and breast reconstruction. He provides the most advanced, innovative care available for patients in Gwinnett County and nearby communities.
He has innovated and invented multiple new surgical approaches in breast cancer surgery and reconstruction. Dr. Schwartz is a recognized national leader in the field of oncoplastic surgery, where principles of cancer surgery and plastic surgery are used together to radically excise all cancerous tissue, but still leave patients with natural looking breasts. He is one of only a handful of breast surgeons in the United States with formal training in oncoplastic surgery. This unique training has allowed him to avoid performing a mastectomy in most women with breast cancer. In patients that do require or request a mastectomy, Dr. Schwartz can usually preserve the skin and nipple and replace your breast with an implant or your own tissues in one surgery.
Dr. Schwartz can provide you with comprehensive surgical care—both cancer surgery and reconstruction in one procedure–unlike most teams of surgical oncologists and plastic surgeons that require two procedures. Being able to perform complex cancer surgery and reconstruction in one step helps minimize cost, hospital stays, infection risks and the number of follow-up doctor visits. He has described and published on the largest series of outpatient mastectomy and implant reconstructions in the world.
Upon completing a fellowship in breast cancer surgery at Yale University, he then completed a year of additional training in reconstructive surgery in Paris, London, Milan, Brazil and New Zealand. Dr. Schwartz has also published numerous peer-reviewed articles in leading surgical journals and spoken at multiple national meetings.
He is considered an expert in his field and is highly sought for speaking opportunities. His research has been published in numerous prestigious surgical journals and continues to contribute to and write original articles in the area of breast surgery.
